I have the original 1990's bottle. It was discontinued in 2005 and revived in 2010.
Opens with a hefty lavender note and some peppery spice. Somewhat sweet throughout its life. There is an "outdoors" or fresh note, which might suggest pine to some (but not me). Not problematic, but not coniferous in my opinion. Hint of wood as it develops. Dry-down is a somewhat sweet musk.
A basic scent, pleasant enough and somewhat old-school. A tad too sweet for me. Don't over-apply and it is OK.

I agree that the "woods" are rather difficult to detect. I could find them, but they were quite minor.

A trip to the vaults reveals this review. Today, I find it to have peppery spice notes and a bit of resinous wood. The secret is to apply it lightly, it could get a bit sweet and heavy otherwise.

This is a pleasant, cologne-style scent. Some citrus, some peppery spice, with a touch of lavender. Not woods at all -- ironic, given the name. The box says, "A fragrance of distinguished demeanor, rich and warm with the wooded flavour of the outdoors." The box I have is dark blue with WOODS and a spruce branch both in silver. Thus, one would expect some sort of conifer and/or wood notes. I don't find any. As I said, a pleasant scent and it evokes good memories from those who wore it in the day. But not worth seeking out for a Conehead collection.

Another site lists these as the notes. Here, there are no woods!
Top note: Citruses
Middle notes: Lavender and Exotic Spices
Base notes: Vetiver and Musk

This was one i personally didn't care for at all. Not woody at all for me.
