A DIS-continued CARON, so naturally, I had to......

Hi all,

I never started out with the intent of buying multi Fragrances from any one House. As far as CARON, I first fell in love with Caron "Yatagan", although I will admit, it took me quite a bit of time (early on) to understand and appreciate "Yatagan" and to become such a huge fan. At any rate, I just started buying/trying other Caron Fragrances over the years (especially) due to their (often on sale/reasonable) cost. Of all the different Fragrance Houses I own, it is CARON that I now own the most bottles of Fragrances. I have yet to be disappointed with any CARON I've purchased.

So tonight (after much reflection and research over the last few years) I decided to pull the trigger and ordered myself one (of the few remaining) 4.2 oz. bottles of the now DIS-continued CARON "Yuzu Man". I figured I'd get while the getting is good. I mean, we all know what happens when a Fragrances is discontinued regarding pricing.
I think I just got under the Gun by ordering "Yuzu Man" tonight as this Fragrance is getting hard to find! At any rate, my collection of CARON Fragrances is as follows:

YATAGAN
L'ANARCHIST
L'EAU
THIRD MAN
SPORT
(on it's way) CARON: POUR UM HOMME D'CARON
(Thrift Shop find) vintage Caron de Nocturnes
(on it's way) YUZU MAN.

Yep, without a doubt, CARON is now my most own House with (soon to be) having a total of eight bottles of CARON Fragrances.
I plan to (one day in the future) purchase CARON's newest Fragrance "Aimez Moi Comme Je Suis" however, I am going to wait it out (I'm thinking six month or so) until this Fragrance is marked down by 50% (or more). I refuse to pay one hundred dollars plus for a bottle of most any Fragrance (save a very select few "Niche" Fragrances).
I think "YUZU MAN" will be lovely for (albeit brief) Maine Summer.

I'm perhaps the odd fan for Yuzu Man whereas it was largely panned by the fragrance community. It's a delightful citrus and fig scent that has decent longevity for a "freshie". Not a challenging scent but easily one of my faves to pull out when it's a lazy Saturday.

Hope you enjoy all of the ones that are incoming - love reading your discovery of this house. Keep on sharing!

Hello gerbick,

Ooh, thank you Sir for responding to my post and thank you for your kind words. I am happy to hear that you are fan of "Yuzu Man". Ooh yes, I am well aware that "YM" hasn't much love with the Fragrance Community which (believe it or not) usually works out to my advantage. This is to say, it has been my experience that the great majority of "disliked/unique/unusual/odd" type of Fragrances often turn out to be my most loved Fragrances. Of course, I'm taking a chance "blind buying" any Fragrances and it doesn't always work out. However, when it comes to the House of CARON, I've yet to be disappointed. I'll keep you posted gerbick. Thanks again.

Regards,

I was eyeing up some Yuzu Man the other day and went through my usual research of note pyramid and reviews and decided against it. I don't want or need another 'freshie', it's not my favourite fragrance category! I only have two Caron's —Pour Un Homme and Le 3e Man and whilst I like them I don't think I like the house enough to want to blind buy another one.

I hope you like it though!

Like you and Caron my largest single house is Floris.

Hi WJ,

Truthfully, I also don't really "need" another "Freshie" Fragrance. Most all my "Freshies" are budget/sale Fragrances ( most all good quality). As I mentioned earlier, "Freshies" are far from my favorite category of Fragrances ("Animalic" being my favorite) which I can wear nine (or more) months a year here in Maine. WJ, your two owned Caron's are excellent choices. What can I say WJ ? I have become a "Fanboy" of the House of Caron. Thank you for your well wishes regarding "Yuzu Man". I'm sure I'll like it! Ooh, I use to have a Floris Cologne (I can't recall which one) however, while I recall Floris being nice, Floris just doesn't "rocked" me like my Caron Fragrances. Ooh, WJ, have you tried "Yatagan" ?

Regards,

I bought three sample packs of Floris fragrances, 3 x 5, I didn't like all of them! But of the ones I did like i bought full bottles of. So far, No 89, Santal, Jermyn Street, Limes, Neroli Voyage and Elite!

I've considered Caron Yatagan but looking at the note tree and reading the reviews I'm not sure I'd like it. I'll find a sample at some point and try it but I think it would be too risky for a full bottle blind buy.

Congrats on your purchases. I like the Caron masculines too. A limited range, but mostly very good. And importantly, still good now.

Which cannot be said about the feminine ones. They used to be stellar, then they went downhill quite a bit. More recently, the brand was purchased by a Rotschild heir, but it's not clear that things are turning for the better-and apparently not. So purchase any current for women Caron at your own risk.

I'm a big fan of Yuzu Man as well.

Not so much yuzu to my nose, but lovely fig and cedar.

As a rather belated reply, glad to both congratulate you for the impressive Caron lineup already owned.

While also to adding Eau de Caron Forte, along with the remaining Les Eaux de Caron options to a possible (re) testing list worth considering, but also pour un Homme flankers at least as great as the regular pour un Homme (in addition to the great ones you already own), like Millesime, Parfum and/or Impact.
Even if admittedly slightly off topic since the vast majority of these is not discontinued-yet still worth looking for as if they actually were.

Most if not all of these being priced quite inexpensively while successfully and generously providing quite consistent quality levels more akin to niche, designer exclusives and/or artisan scent lines. As well as being mostly if not entirely unaffected by (often cost-cutting and/or quality decreasing) recently mainstream, increasingly commonplace reformulations.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for you nice comments on my CARON collection. Ken, I agree with you 100% that:

Ken, I could not agree more! Your well stated comment is EXACTLY the reason why I own more bottles (eight) of CARON Fragrances than any other House. I only wish other "Designer" Houses would follow suit. Thanks Ken.

I agree. I love it and wear it in the summer but it is not as Yuzu-forward as one would think. Love the older Carons. I recently got Sport which I will wear this summer.
