German Fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld, has died aged 85.


Lagerfeld was best known for being the creative head of Chanel from 1983, but has also worked for (and with) Chloé, Balmain, Patou, H&M and Fendi.

Lagerfeld's first fragrance was launched in 1975 whilst he was at Chloé, but the first fragrance under his own name, was in 1978. both fragrances were produced in partnership with Elizabeth Arden.

Lagerfeld's own fashion line was acquired by Tommy Hilfiger in 2004, and since 2012 his fragrances have been produced by Inter Parfums.

Although Inter Parfums' license was set to run out in 2032, in 2017 it was decided to terminate the contract early, in 2024 as the brand had been underperforming.

Chanel has announced that Karl Lagerfeld's replacement as Virginie Viard. Viard had worked alongside Lagerfeld at Chanel for over 30 years.
