Frédéric Malle's latest is Uncut Gem, based on Maurice Roucel's signature scent

Uncut Gem is the latest fragrance in the Editions De Parfums Frédéric Malle line. The perfume has been created by long-time Malle collaborator, Maurice Roucel, who has previously contributed Musc Ravageur and Dans tes Bras for Malle's brand.

The company say "While Malle gives total creative freedom to his collaborators, he sees it as his job as publisher to maintain a certain overarching sensibility, which has historically been highly refined. Yet innovation, reinvention, and interpretation is his raison d’être. Hence his quest for what he describes as “an almost-too-obvious, in-your-face cologne”: a scent that plays with the tired codes of masculinity while extracting their telluric force to make something beautiful and irresistible. Uncut Gem walks up to the line of good taste, ties it into a lasso, and casually ropes a bucking bronco."

Editions De Parfums Uncut Gem.jpg For years, Malle had been intrigued by Roucel’s own signature scent, a unique blend he’d created in the lab for his own use. “I’m not the only one who thought that he smelled good, but I am the only one he’d work with to evolve the scent from a rough sketch into something refined. And I’m honored because it’s so autobiographical, personal.” After five years of persuasion, Roucel agreed to work with Malle to create the cologne that would become Uncut Gem.

Notes for the fragrance include ginger, bergamot, mandarin, Angelica root, nutmeg, leathery accord, vetiver, frankincense, generous amounts of amber, and musk .

In the UK, Uncut Gem launches exclusively in Liberty from 19th September and nationwide from October 3rd. The scent is available as 50ml and 100ml.

It was a pleasure to try Uncut Gem in Paris.

Uncut Gem is amazing and it something which you would not expect from Mr. Roucel.
Deep, rich, woody, citrus with some good amber elements. Is it bigarade or is it grapefruit? It is definitely bitter and bold.

It is strong. It is refreshing, but deep and rich as well. There is a lot of incense which makes me happy as I am a huge incense fan.

It is definitely "something new" and I think that you'll like it as well.
Even though I think that FM is completely unisex, this one a masculine scent and it is very loud and present in the air.

I've tried it twice on my skin and the lasting power was phenomenal, like 24 hours and it's very potent and the projection is insane.

It's in the POAL price range which is somewhere around €300. We'll be able to buy it in September/October this year!
